3 Auburns
Three Auburn rubber toy motorcycles — blue, red, and teal — rendered large-scale in oil against a vibrant orange striped background. These mid-century dime-store toys, with their yellow wheels and molded riders, take on a new weight when blown up to painting scale. What was once small and disposable becomes bold, almost heroic.
I love the tension between the toylike flatness of the original objects and the richness you can pull out through paint — the reflected light on the plastic, the mechanical detail in the engines, the way three identical forms feel completely different in three colors.
